NETx BMS Platform as well as our NETx MP Server can be integrated as a main/backup solution. This means that two server instances are installed on two different locations – either on two different physical servers/workstations or within two virtual machines.
Main/backup solution
-
1
When the main server is active the backup server synchronizes all data and remains up to date via the synchronization connection.
-
2
When the main server is down, the synchronization connection is lost and the backup server takes over all control including communication with field devices and visualization clients.
-
3
When the main server is active again, the backup server updates the main server with all current data and becomes inactive. The main server takes over the control as usual.
Advantages
In case of a hardware failure (e.g. corrupted memory or a defect hard disk), the physical workstation will fail and crash. In such a case, the backup server can take over.
It reduces the downtime for maintenance tasks. For example, if the Windows operating system was updated, a reboot may be required. During such a reboot, the backup server can take over.
For some configuration changes, the NETx Server has to be restarted. Again, during this restart the backup server can take over.

NETx Cloud Portal
The NETx Cloud Portal is a powerful web tool that allows you to manage all your servers from a single location. It gives you the ability to monitor the status of the core server, database connection and other things. In addition, the cloud portal gives you remote access to the Web Manager and the Web Server. You also get information about the license ID, active clients, and server uptime. Furthermore, you can initiate and download backups to further increase the security level.
NETx Metering Module
Monitor, analyze and process data from smart meters
The goal of modern building automation systems is to increase the user comfort and use the existing resources efficiently. Therefore, building automation contributes significantly to decrease the energy consumption and protect the environment. The intelligent networking of smart meters as well as the use of environmental and sensor data provide the possibility to make analyses that go far beyond conventional consumption recording. This is where our new metering module comes into play. As an extension to our NETx BMS Platform, it helps you to monitor, analyze and process data from smart meters.
Functions
The metering module is neither restricted to specific sources nor to specific meter types. It enables you to use any smart meter (KNX, BACnet, Modbus, M-Bus, ...) from different sources (electricity, water, air, heating, ...).
All calculated consumption values (hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) are provided as normal data points. These data points can be used within our visualization or can be forwarded to other management clients via standard interfaces like OPC, BACnet, MQTT or other web services.
Within the metering module, other trending values can also be included in calculation charts. This provides the possibility to use data points that influence the consumption of energy resource (e.g. temperature values) as comparative values.
The metering module helps you collect consumption values from smart meters and save them in an SQL database. You can then show and export the hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or annual consumption as a table or chart. You can compare the values from different meters or from different time periods. The integrated meters can be structured hierarchically using so called cost centers. The assignment of the meters to the cost centers can be made on a percentage base. Based on the selected cost center and the assigned meters, consumption calculations can be carried out.
The metering module enables you to manually add meter readings for Excel tables.
You are free to use our central user management. Using different permission roles, you can restrict the access to the metering module. While users with higher permissions are able to change the project structure, other users may only be allowed to evaluate calculation charts and generate reports.
All results can be exported for further processing via the open interfaces. This means that applications from third-party manufacturers can also access the data. For information about third-party interfaces, please contact us.
The results of the consumption calculations can be exported in different formats. You can show the results online within our web interface as chart elements or tables. In addition, you generate reports in different file formats like PDF, Excel, … The time period of the shown values can freely be chosen. To be able to compare the calculation results with each other, it is possible to display several meters or periods in one calculation chart. For easy handling of the metering module, the calculation charts can be saved. If you want to reuse a saved calculation chart later, the saved configuration is loaded and displayed with the current values. In addition to the visualization of the consumption values, it is also possible to define actions, such as periodically sending reports by email or exporting them to other systems.
Automatic shading control – NETx Shutter Control
Automatic shading of complex buildings, high user comfort and energy efficiency
NETx Shutter Control is an extension to the NETx BMS Platform for automatic shading of complex buildings. It controls blinds considering the current season, weather, sun position as well as the position and 3D geometry of the building.
Project specific
NETx Shutter Control is based on a 3D model, which considers your building but also the sun path and the shadow of the surrounding objects. In combination with live data e.g. weather and position of the sun, the blinds are controlled in the most optimal way. Being a project-specific solution, NETx Shutter Control always considers your individual needs as well as special operating modes.
Sophisticated
The use of ordinary sensors and actuators is not sufficient for sophisticated shading solutions. The resulting shadow of surrounding objects and building parts cannot be recognized by such simple devices. Complex algorithms and control logic need computational resources that cannot be provided by embedded devices. Therefore, it is necessary to use a software at the management level of the building automation system.
Extensive
NETx Shutter Control is a solution which was developed for large and complex buildings. You can control and visualize thousands of blinds in a central way.
System architecture
The Core Server of the NETx BMS Platform receives sensor values like the current weather situation and the status of the blinds, and sends control commands for changing the blinds and slats. The control functionality for the automatic shading and other features like maintenance mode and manual/automatic control are provided by NETx Shutter Control. NETx Shutter Control consists of an extension module and the management GUI. The extension module is loaded by the Core Server. It is responsible for the overall control functionality. The manager GUI is the management interface of NETx Shutter Control. It is used by the administrator for configuration purposes.
Functions
Based on construction plans, a 3D model of the building, the blinds and surrounded objects will be created. This 3D model is the basis for the simulation of the shadow of the building and its environment. The simulation is performed for every minute of the whole year.
Based on the simulation and different run time parameters, all blinds are controlled automatically. The control logic can be adapted to the needs of the building owner. In addition to the current weather situation, other parameters like a manual override or special operating and safety modes can be considered.
One or more weather stations determine the current weather situation. You are free to choose any weather station. You might also use sophisticated stations, which measure the current global solar radiation.
The blinds can be controlled individually or per group.
In addition of the position of the blinds, also the position of the slats can be controlled automatically. The slat adjustment is controlled according to the elevation and azimuth angle of the sun.
Besides the automatic control, you can also control the blinds manually. We can adapt the manual override to your project-specific needs.
To include the current weather situation, you can define a brightness threshold and a hysteresis for each shading group. Dynamic adjustment of the threshold according to the elevation angle of the sun can avoid a glaring due to a low position of the sun.

Pure field
level protocol
- Mostly used in combination with system standards like KNX
- No standardized IP interface
- KNX is the most common way to integrate DALI
- Some KNX/DALI gateways have multiple channels
- Up to 64 DALI devices can be connected to one (1) channel
- Using KNX, DALI can be connected to Building Management Systems (BMS) - Visualization, monitoring, maintenance of lighting control
- KNX/DALI gateways are used to interconnect the DALI bus to KNX
- DALI data and information are provided as KNX group objects - objects for: lighting control (on/off, dimming, status, ...), maintenance (trigger tests, providing test results, ...), emergency lighting control (emergency status, emergency tests, ...)
- High amount of functions and high amount of devices per gateway would result in a high amount of KNX group objects at the gateway
- To avoid this, only parts of the functionality are available for each DALI device
- Group objects per DALI device: on/off, dimming, status, ...
- Group object per channel: trigger function tests, test results, ...
- Stateful communication is required to get all information per device, e.g. DALI tests
- Standard functions are available as standard DPTs (e.g. dimming)
- Many KNX/DALI gateways use even non-standardized DPTs
- For enhanced functions like testing, complex DPTs are used, e.g. DPT_DALI_Control_Gear_Diagnostics
- There are many different manufactures for KNX/DALI gateways
- Only standard functionality is common to all DALI gateways (on/off, dimming, ...)
- Advanced features like DALI testing are manufacturer-specific
- Manufacturer-specific: non-standardized DPTs
- stateful communication logics are required
